Pre-Opening Mod Post
Hi, everybody!
We’re now a little less than a week from opening. We wanted to do a few housekeeping things here, so we want to give y’all some more information, but also collect some feedback, too. Read on for that, and offer your thoughts below!
Healing
Just a quick heads-up: we revised the healing file. We realized it was written before we implemented the schools and that made it a little complex in a way that could limit people with mending or imbuing -- so we kept the spirit of what we were aiming for, but made it a lot broader in how you get there. If you have questions, hit us up!
Minor Schools
We gave a player a little bit of clarification, and realized it may not be abundantly clear in the files: if you want to, you can make a minor school of magic up that your character uses. We’d prefer you use one of the existing ones when possible -- and if your idea fits in one of those schools, the mods will tell you to use that! -- but there are powersets our schools don’t cover. We’d like you to tell us what that minor school as a whole can do, though, and not just what your character can do.
If you’ve had a character approved but wanted to do something like this, drop the mods a line, and we’ll work with you!
How IC Weeks Will Go
We want to preface this with a very simple statement: this is the expected pattern, not how every individual IC week will go. Plot-heavy weeks, test weeks, breather weeks, and sometimes for other reasons may vary considerably.
Basically, me and Doom will try to usually have two-to-three things every IC week. A lot of this will be school oriented -- particularly around the practicals, when those are being held. Practicals are when professors hold a special session, practicing a skill out in the field. These will range from a basic set-up for a log and you can RP to your heart’s content, or actually running a specific event. We’ll also have school events, from simple social hours to dances to tests.
This will change a lot on test weeks. We’ll talk about those closer to when it’s time.
If you play a teacher, you’re free to arrange your own practicals. We may also institute sign-ups for some practicals -- we wanna keep the GM-intensive logs snappy and not sprawling, so this isn’t to cut everyone out. We’ll rotate so everyone gets into something, when we do these, as necessary!
Classes
We wanna get everyone’s feedback on how we do classes, so please reply and tell us what you think! We see two options for how we do classes.
Option 1: We play it a little fast-and-loose, and don’t make carefully set class schedules, but give an overall list of classes and let people kinda bullshit when their classes are, but not worry about getting too detailed. This gives a lot more freedom, but is kind of loosey-goosey and less immersive. But less to keep track of?
Option 2: We make a Google doc spreadsheet with what classes are offered on what days, and everyone picks six. Then you schedule them yourself -- we’ll say classes have different year students in them, depending what the students have specialized in. This will be a lot more coherent, but will take more organization on all of our parts, and there will be a little less wiggle room.
There may be other options! If you got an idea, let us know. Give us your thoughts, and we’ll make a call!
Overall
We are due to go IC June 1st! If you have friends who want a game, feel free to tell them about it. The weekchange is 95% written and will be ready to go up on Sunday morning. Possibly even around midnight CST on Sunday morning. We will be working hard to be sure every app we have is processed by Saturday, so if you have second characters (or even more!) feel free to get them up before then.
We'll also post a CR planning post later this week -- probably Thursday or Friday, depending on apps/mods' schedules/omens and portents.
The first IC day will be September 1, 1996! Sorry for the confusion on that.

I can see benefits to both class options and I'm down either way.
