HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER

Hello! I am Surya Lowell and I am Doom's new investigator who is cool and great.

Surya's a little unique: Unlike all the other Investigators, Surya is actually not with SICU. He failed to get into that long ago; after a couple decades of working for various less-than-savory people in various only-somewhat-savory roles, Surya was tapped by the Trenton Corporation to work as an on-staff private investigator, to help them find and secure children lost in the cracks of the house system; and "security consultant", which is an underworld euphemism for the person who makes sure everyone is safe and beats up anyone who has designs on making that not true. Yes, Doom watched a lot of gangster movies in college, why do you ask?

That mix of intelligence and muscle has seen Surya assigned to Paracelsus as Trenton's on-site investigator. Surya's got a bit of a leg up on the other Investigators, since the involvement of Trenton kids with high Loyalty means Trenton was able to pass him some useful briefing materials.

This is definitely good for you and cannot explode in your face in any way.

Trenton used a few favors to get him the same privileges and access as the SICU Investigators, with similar responsibilities: Surya will be taking over Elementary Elemental Channeling (M/W 10-11:30), Management of Aware Mundanes (M/W 3-4:30), Intermediate Elemental Channeling (T/Th 10-11:30), and Long-Term Elemental Shaping (T/Th 3-4:30), after their teachers were injured during FIMBULWINTER.

Surya and Ezra can hide out and smoke behind the buildings until Acher catches them.

Also, would Trenton students recognize him at all or would he have been only known to the likes of David and other higher-ups?

Otherwise, I don't think I have anything to offer right off the bat... which could all change of course!

Surya didn't interact with students heavily but he wasn't, like, actively hidden from them, either. Trentons probably know him (I was gonna have him hit them up on email soon), but mostly in the sense of 'friendly face' rather than having a lot of heavy investment (i.e., not the way I've always played David up as really trying to be personally involved with the kids.)

Okay, cool! Yeah, Calli would have been friendly with him and would greet him without hesitation upon seeing him on campus. She just likes seeing familiar faces on campus. Calli hasn't got the same level of paranoia as most and won't see anything too strange about his being there.

Surya could very well know All About Rhys given I doubt David's the only one nursing that secret. I imagine Rhys joined Trenton not long after the Tours, but it's never been stated if they scooped them up ASAP or found him with survivors like, a ~yearish after (or more). This is flexible if you want to do more with their CR history.

Otherwise I imagine Rhys will have mostly positive reactions toward him because, well, Trenton.

Victor is Schellenberg and has a similar invoking style and they should fight maybe there's something to do there concerning loyalty shenanigans and trickery.

There's a possibility my internal debate over whether or not to use the Invoking style was settled with 'but an armory fight between Surya and Victor would be effin' sweet'. And I do think some fun mixed-loyalty stuff might be interesting.

I kinda like the idea of Surya helping pick Rhys up so there's some on-screen results of his work, too.

I am down for this then! It would give Rhys an extra boost in loyalty toward Surya, even if they didn't interact too deeply afterward. The details of how Rhys is found are flexible too if you've got anything you'd like to do concerning how difficult it was or wasn't to track him down/get him safely. The only thing I think that's come up about Small Rhys in game was that he was an empathetic mess of trauma and terror. (But possibly could have sensed Surya's intentions and not giving him a lot of hell.)

A TRENTON GROWN UP GASP

Val has been with Trenton since she was 5 or 6, so she'd probably have seen him around a fair bit over the years? It's poooossible he went to help find her when the rumours of the girl who talks to ghosts up in Spain got around but unless he spoke Spanish or Basque he'd have needed someone to translate?
